I am making daisy cookies and need a hardening icing recipe...Does anyone have any good ones??

Also, would it be okay to add food coloring to the recipe or would the extra liquid ruin the hardening effect??

Just make a simple buttercream frosting and add your yellow food coloring after you have about the spreading consistency that you want. A thinner frosting will set "harder". Don't put in much coloring. Start with a drop or two and stir it in. Add more if the color isn't what you want. But the few drops won't change the overall consistency.

Simple buttercream: 1/2 stick butter, softened plus 3 cups confectioners sugar - cream together. Add 1 tsp. vanilla and 2 Tbs. milk and then see if you want it thinner. Add food coloring and stir completely.
Reply:The royal icing recipie will set much better and harder than the buttercream icing, buttercream is just that, creamy....
Reply:You want to make Royal Icing:

2 large egg whites

2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice

3 cups (330 grams) confectioners (powdered or icing) sugar, sifted

Desired food coloring

Combine first 3 ingredients in a bowl. Beat the egg whites with the lemon juice. Add the sifted powdered sugar and beat on low speed until combined and smooth. Icing will be be opaque white (flower petals). Add a drop or two of yellow food coloring to achieve desired color for the center of the daisy. The icing needs to be used immediately or transferred to an airtight container as royal icing hardens when exposed to air.
