it should, depending on range and the thickness of the jar. if the jar is too thick it might just ricochet though, and there's also the risk of flying glass splinters, so it wouldn't be the brightest thing in the world to shoot glass within the effective range of a red ryder.
Reply:Yes it can, but don't do it. First of all, the BB will ricochet, and you never know where it will go. Second, you'll have to clean up the broken glass. Third, if you have a Red Ryder, I assume it's your first gun (it was mine, too), and now would be a good time to learn to be a responsible shooter. You will have just as much fun shooting paper targets, and there's a lot less to clean up. Also, when you graduate to a "real" gun, I hope you'll spend time at the range shooting at paper targets, and your experience will put you that far ahead.

I assume you were asking if the BB's you fire from the Red Ryder will bust the glass jar. You can of course simply use the BB gun itself and either butt-stroke the jar into submission or knock it off the table,shelf,pick up truck hood or other rest and watch the jar shatter on the ground.
